Oh, just yuck.

It snowed again. Then sleeted. Then freezing rain on top of that. Now a little bit of rain, but not enough to wash all that slop away. There are about 6-8 inches of soggy snow sitting in the driveway waiting to be removed before it freezes into a solid block of ice. The tarp on my woodpile, that I just got unstuck, is buried again. Unless I get moving on that, it’ll be frozen to the ground again by tonight. I don’t feel particularly chipper today. The last thing I want to do is go out and shovel heavy wet snow. But I guess that’s just too darned bad.
There was a snow emergency last night. The town’s blue lights flashed with authority and everyone who saw them probably felt their heart drop into their toes. Except for the kids, who were collectively praying that there would be no school this morning. It worked. There was no school this morning. The teacher across the street has spent her day off shoveling. I’m willing to bet, at this point in the season, given a choice, she’d rather have school.
This has been a long winter. And it has completely lost all of its charms. I am so sick of snow and freezing rain. It would be bearable if we just got snow, but no. We get snow and then the freezing rain on top of it. We can’t just have a snow storm. We have to get the whole gamut of precipitation at once. Then the temperatures drop 10 degrees below freezing and if we were foolish enough to not shovel away every last flake, we end up with thick ice for the next several days or weeks or whatever.
Today I have to shovel the driveway, the sidewalks, the deck, and the area around my woodpile. Yippee.
If I could, I’d just hibernate until spring and let nature fix it all. I’m so tired of fighting with snow and ice. Really, really, really sick of it.
