Have some fun with words

After our recently departed monsoon, mother nature has decided to surprise us with a beautiful day and low humidity. It must have been a last minute surprise because the weather man surely didn’t see it coming. On such as day as this, one drops what one is doing (or planned to do) to rush outside and hack through the jungle that has miraculously taken over during the deluge. There are no fewer than seven locust trees that have gained a toehold in the middle of my back yard. They are determined little things. That’s the perversity of nature for you. The trees that I want to grow in the places where I want them to grow seem to be precisely located in the most sterile spots in the neighborhood. The trees that I don’t want in precisely the places where I don’t want them thrive and appear almost overnight. It’s a good day to do battle.

While I’m out toiling in the dirt, you might be interested in creating some word art. It’s addictive and I must stay away from it for the balance of the day. I owe a hat tip to Linkmeister for this one. More fun than should be legal.

Make a word cloud out of almost anything...your blog front page or anything else you choose. Here’s mine—it’s a Wordle word cloud of Robert Frost’s poem, Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening.

Aloha!!  looks like fun and even though I am here in paradise - and it truly is - am still on est time so this might be fun when I am up at 5AM cause my internal clock is calling me a slug for still being in bed!!  Of course I am going to bed when everyone else does so not getting a lot of sleep., But hey, we have all winter for that!!

Looked at a condo yesterday and had only been on the island for about 12 hours!!  Anxious?  Who, me??  LOL

cyn, go eat at Buzz’s in Lanikai!  That’s the flagship steak house; my sister manages the other one out on my side of the island.

Sigh, jealous Cyn!
BC and I just did one together
My Heart Belongs to California, or course, is the title.

Aloha, Cyn! I’ll bet it’s really nice there and you’re having a wonderful time, jet lag nothwithstanding. You’re not missing much here. Try to bring some of that paradise back with you when you come home!

Buzz’s!!  It’s a must when we are here, at least one lunch and one dinner, always.  Love it!!  And my friends live so close to it, we can walk, Spent my day yesterday at the beach directly across the street!!  And today at the other beach across the street from their house.  Just came back from waving to Chinaman’s Hat.  LOL I will bring as much paradise back as I can.  It truly is.  Met a couple the other day who are selling their condo--we went to look at it.  They are moving back to NH after 19 years here.  I think they are seriously delusional.,,,,,,,,,,,,;)

Where is the other one Linkmeister??  We are going to spend Monday (I think) on the North Shore.  ALoha Stadium and the Swap meet on Wednesday.  I have to do all my usual things when we are here.  Joe will go back to Pearl Harbor while I am at the Swap Meet cause he doesn’t get real excited about that....I don’t understand why?  Plus he is a redhead so a little too sunny for him too!!

I did a word cloud for Roundrock Journal once a couple of years ago, and soon after that I started getting a lot of spam comments. I wrote to the site asking about this and they “doubted” there was any connection, but they did say they changed their programming code in some way “just in case.”

Oh I love that word, WORDLE!!!

Posted by canyoncottage on 07/28  at  05:30 PM

Annie, it is a fun word, isn’t it?

Pablo, beats me. I’m generally cautious about entering my blog address (RSS feed address in Wordle’s case) or any personal information into online forms. I cut and pasted a poem into Wordle. No return address. It’s more fun playing with it by entering your own text and tweaking the results—patterns, fonts, colors. Word art.

cyn, it’s on Kaahumanu west of Aloha Stadium.  Here’s a map.  If you know where Pearlridge Shopping Center is, it’s a few stoplights west on Kamehameha Highway to Kaahumanu.  Make a right to Moanalua Road and you can’t miss it on the northwest corner across the street.

(It’s very odd to try to translate mauka/makai and Ewa/Diamond Head into NSEW directions.)

Got it, thanks!!  I do know where Pearlridge is and am thinking I will hit the swap meet tomorrow so maybe there for lunch since we go to the one here for dinner....we will see.  Then again, I may just hang out on the beach.  Sigh, life on the island is so hard.......LOL Yesterday went to North Shore and of course had Shave Ice at Matsomoto’s (sp).  Kate, save your pennies (and everything else) and come to Hawaii...maybe Linkmeister will let you pitch a tent in his back yard!!  It is SO worth it.

No lunch there, cyn.  They stopped lunch service about a year ago, unfortunately.  It was costing more than it was bringing in. :-(

There are other restaurants out this direction, though!  E-mail me for suggestions!

I wanna be there sad

So glad I dropped by. Not only to revisit the islands, as I did as a youngster but to pick up on the Wordle.
Thanks!
